Overview

This module will take approximately 30 minuntes and contains a case study and an optional multiple choice questionnaire. It has a list of useful references and an audit suggestion. 

  • Background to the disease burden that is associated with autoimmune disease
    • Including prevalence and complications
  • Diagnosis
    • Symptoms and signs, specifically associated with rheumatoid disease, thyroid autoimmune disease and systemic lupus erythematosus

Goals

During this course you will learn to:

  • Understand the concept of auto-immunity and the disease burden which it represents.
  • Describe the pathogenesis of auto-immunity.
  • Have an outline of the range of autoimmune diseases and the potential differential diagnoses.
  • Take a detailed history and know what element of examinations to undertake in people suffering autoimmune disease.
  • Know which investigations to undertake to diagnosis rheumatoid disease, autoimmune thyroid disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
