Presenter Biographies

Dr Rebecca Leon

Rebecca is a GP partner in East Cheshire with a special interest in primary care oncology, palliative care, and women’s health. She is a GP Lead for GatewayC and The Christie School of Oncology, and a specialist doctor at Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Dr Helena O’Flynn

Helena works as a GP in Manchester following completion of an Academic Clinical Fellowship training programme and a Masters in Public Health. She has an interest in the early detection of gynaecological cancers in primary care, and women’s health. She graduated from medical school at the University of Manchester and was subsequently awarded an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship, and is now undertaking a PhD at the University of Manchester investigating methods of early detection of endometrial cancer as well as awareness of symptoms of endometrial cancer. She has been a Trustee of Peaches Womb Cancer Trust since 2020 and is currently Deputy Chair.

Overview

This webinar lasts approximately 60 minutes and covers the following:

  • The key risk factors and common presenting symptoms of endometrial cancer.
  • The definition of postmenopausal bleeding and when it is a red flag symptom of cancer.
  • How to manage bleeding in menopausal patients taking HRT.
  • When to be concerned about bleeding in perimenopausal and/or postmenopausal patients.
  • What examinations and investigations are helpful in diagnosing endometrial cancer.
  • How primary care colleagues can improve access to care for patients facing barriers to gynaecological health services.
