Dr Milli Raizada
Dr Milli Raizada is a GP, senior clinical lecturer at Lancaster University and GMC associate. She is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education and assessment. Milli has a special interest in lifestyle medicine and uses its principles to prevent, manage and treat common chronic diseases in primary care.
Purpose
This session introduces the anatomy and physiology of the thyroid gland—its hormonal output, regulation by the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis, and nutritional requirements (e.g. iodine, selenium). We’ll explore the aetiology of hyperthyroidism, including Graves’ disease, toxic multinodular goitre, and thyroiditis. Practitioners will learn how to assess symptoms and interpret TFTs and the management options included. Practical case studies included to consolidate learning.
