Overview

This module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and includes the following elements.

    • Available insulin products and accessories, administration, injection technique and site, storage, monitoring of blood glucose, and managing hypoglycaemia.

Goals

During this course you will learn to:

  • Be aware of the differences between insulin products.
  • Be aware of the different insulin regimens.
  • Identify the most appropriate insulin product and ensure that people receive appropriate training on their correct use.
  • Ensure that people receiving insulin therapy are given information on awareness and management of hypoglycaemia.
  • Manage other adverse effects of insulin therapy, such as injection site problems.
  • Be aware of 'sick-day rules' and ensure that people with diabetes who are receiving insulin therapy are given appropriate information on these.
  • Provide information and advice on lifestyle and cultural aspects of insulin therapy, including diet and exercise, alcohol intake, driving, holiday and travel, insurance, fasting, and shift work.
