This module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and includes the following:
- Assessment
- Including assessing the needs of a dying person and their family/carers and how to recognize the terminal phase of the person's illness.
- Management
- How to appropriately administer general palliative care.
- Optional quiz to assess your learning from the course.
- A list of useful links and resources for further reading.
Goals
During this course you will learn to:
- Make an assessment that a person has entered the palliative phase of their illness.
- Recognize the need to assess the person's physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs promptly and at regular intervals.
- Relieve the person's symptoms and fears.
- Assess the need for anticipatory prescribing of medications.
- Enable the person to die in the place of their choosing whenever possible.
- Involve the person, carers and family members in discussions about management changes.
