Pharmacogenomics: Implementation and Models of Care

Presenter Biographies

This webinar will be co-presented by Dr Ravi Sharma, Dr Jude Hayward and Dr Imran Rafi. 

Dr Ravi Sharma
Ravi is Head of Pharmacy (Luton & Dunstable University Hospital) and Deputy Chief Pharmacist at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Prior to this he was Director for England at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and National Clinical Lead for Clinical Pharmacy and Genomics at NHS England, where he was responsible for the policy, advocacy, and lobbying for the integration of pharmacy teams into new integrated, collaborative and innovative roles linked to health policy initiatives and workforce development strategies.

A pharmacist prescriber by background, Ravi has worked in general practice for over 10 years. He has held several national and advisory positions across Department of Health and Social Care, the British Medical Association and Royal College of General Practitioners. Ravi received a scholarship to complete a master's in Genomic Medicines at Imperial College London in 2018. He is now currently completing a doctorate at The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra (in Australia), a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Visiting Fellow at The King’s Fund, and a member of the NHS Assembly. 
 

Dr Jude Hayward
Jude is a GP in Bradford and GPwSI in genetics/genomics with the Yorkshire Regional Genetics Service, within which she provides a clinical service for familial cancer, inherited cancer predisposition syndromes and neurofibromatosis type 1. She has longstanding interests in education and implementation of genomics and pharmacogenomics in the context of primary care.  

She is currently primary care lead for NHS genomics education, co-chair of the HEE GEP / NHSEI Primary Care Special Interest Group in Genomics, and leading on workforce development and education within this role. As RCGP co-clinical champion for genomics in primary care with Dr Imran Rafi she co-led an educational needs assessment which culminated in the Genomic Medicine Curriculum Topic Guide within the RCGP Curriculum and the RCGP Genomics Toolkit.

Dr Imran Rafi
Imran has been a GP principal in practice for 22 years. He is currently a reader in primary care and genomics at St George's University of London. Together with Jude Hayward, Imran is a RCGP clinical champion in genomics and both are principal investigators on the HAPPY project working with Congenica on pharmacogenomics in primary care.
